Breaking news for all you child photographers out there! Today welcomed the launch of a new organization called the napcp: national association of professional child photographers. I think this is going to be a tremendous resource for the photography community and for parents looking to hire a photographer as well. Through napcp you’ll be able to stay connected with all the latest industry news, find vendors, and participate in the forum and print competitions. I am very excited to be a part of the action, but rather than use my feeble words to try to explain what it’s all about, you should head over the website to check it out for yourself.
While you’re at it, keep an eye out for my banner! I was so thrilled to be invited as one of the 8 child photographers specifically selected to be featured by napcp as displaying talent and leadership in our industry. Each time you visit the site one of our banners will appear, so you may have to hit refresh a few times to get a glimpse of mine! We truly have an amazing industry full of kind, generous, and soulful artists, and I am so proud to be a part of it.

Well, at least thats what I’m hoping for. Jessie and Dana, my two best friends from High School have started a business together, and of course when they told me the news I was jumping up and down with glee like any entrepreneur would be when they find out their friends are starting their own venture as well. I was excited to help them in any way I could…and of course, my camera came in handy!
Jessie is the mastermind chef behind Vita Dolce: Chocolates for the Sweet Life. Let me just tell you, these are some of the best truffles I have ever tasted. I was floored at how amazing they were the first time I tasted her brilliance. Now I crave them and wish my refrigerator was stock full of them anytime I get a sweet tooth after dinner. You will just have to try them for yourself by ordering a box of the mouth watering truffles for Easter. And for all you brides to be, these chocolates also make amazing wedding favors. Vita Dolce ships anywhere in the U.S. and their packaging is so cute!
I’m no food stylist, but here are some of my favorite product shots.

When I was a kid I couldn’t imagine a place that could possibly be any more magical than the land of Australia. No offense to my mother land, but I remember daydreaming during Geography class that I could live down under and have a kangaroo for a pet. To this day if I hear anyone speak with an Aussie accent my heart melts into a puddle around my feet. Sigh. I’m enamored, infatuated and mystified by this breath-taking far away place I’ve never seen. I’d probably jump through flaming hoops in a gasoline doused night gown for the chance to be able to spend some time there.
And that’s why I went full-on crazy pants when an Australian photographer unexpectedly wrote one day and offered to be an event coordinator for an Amy Wenzel workshop in Melbourne. My heart stopped. My eyes glazed over. Drool started running out the corner of my mouth. The closest I’d ever come to Australia was an Outback Steakhouse, and suddenly I was being offered the chance to come teach there??? After considering the number of emails I receive from Australian photographers asking for help or advice, and the amount of blog traffic from there as well, I decided to take the plunge and make my wildest elementary school dreams come true. So David and I will be packing our bags and spending a few weeks in Australia. That is if I can manage not to pee my pants with joy in the process. (Oh, and if someone could please arrange for me to pet a Koala bear while I’m there I’d be eternally grateful!!) Now I know I’m probably supposed to act all cool, calm and collected over this, you know, like thats just how I roll, dog. But truthfully I’m in a state of dorkitude happiness over this opportunity. And much like the Pointer Sisters, “I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it.”
So without further ado, I wanted to get this info circulating regarding the Melbourne workshop we’re planning for next year.
Workshop: 2 Day focusing on creative kids photography
Date: January 13-14, 2010
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Event Coordinator: Jessie Broome of J {Studios}: studio@j-studios.com.au
I’ve opened up registration at amywenzelworkshops.com where you can read all the details. Please contact either myself or Jessie if you have any questions!

After deciding that I’m done sitting on my butt all winter, I went back to the gym this week and heartily dove into a rather generous weight routine. Now I am like beyond crippled and can barely walk. You should see me try to take on our stairs. I’m tempted just to slide down them using a pillow. And going up them, I won’t even get into that. I am sore just to the touch. David keeps trying to hug me and is met by panicked shrieks of pain. I see my dreams of becoming a body builder crumbling before my eyes. The only thing left to do is get out the BENGAY and lather up. Then I’ll be a walking (or should I say hobbling) stink factory. Yummm.

I’m warning you I’m a little short on words today. Last week was long and yucky and I think I’m being affected by the winter doldrums. However today I am seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel despite the rainy overcast sky. It’s one of those days where you are soooo tempted to go fry your skin in a tanning bed, but that was something I would have done circa 1999. Since then I’ve been converted from doing anything of the sort. I’ll just have to put my eyeballs 6 inches from a light bulb and pretend its the sun.
It’s been too long since I posted, so here are some fashion photos I did recently for children’s clothing designer Lanna Mae Brown. The models were good sports and even got their pouty faces on.
