Wow, how wonderful your classes sold out. I hadn’t been on your blog in awhile. Will you be offering another class this summer? I’d really like to come & learn since I’m just starting my biz. Just have to be up for the long drive lol

Amy, So for the last couple days I have been looking through all of the archives of your blog. I sware I’m not a stalker, but I have become a fan. So, I thought it would be in bad taste to not leave a little blog love.
You’re so talented. I have been inspired by your work, and encouraged that a girl with a dream can do it. Sometimes I fear I have all this stuff inside of me that I will never accomplish. I feel scattered and confused so my dreams end up being shelfed. I pray that He’ll give me the gumption to actually accomplish those dreams someday. So, “getting to know you” the last couple days has renewed some dreams inside of me and hopefully they will be pulled off the shelf, dusted off, and accomplished.
Thanks for inspiring me. I too hope to be a successful photographer someday.

I wouldn’t be the cautious woman I am today if it wasn’t for my sister Lisa, and I must admit that my childhood wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining. I adored and worshiped her. I loved the way her innocent eyes danced with mischief and the way she could make anything seem like a fun adventure. In a family of 4 kids, we were the 2 middle children who spent hours playing together and watching each other’s backs.
As a loyal protector, she took it upon herself at an early age to supply me with all the knowledge and skills I would need to survive any hazardous situation. Based on a curriculum made up entirely from her 7 year old imagination, she passed down detailed survival training with the dogmatism of a drill sargeant, preparing me for what to do in the terrifying event that I was kidnapped, lost in the woods, or faced with a burglar in the house at night. She was my unwavering teacher, and I was her extremely dedicated pupil. Under her tutelage I was taught to spell, do long division, and ask Jesus into my heart each and every time we played Sunday school. At least I know I’ll never have to worry in that category…I’ve been saved more times than a paranoid preacher’s daughter. But of all the impending doom, I believe she was most concerned that I would be kidnapped, and it was HIGH PRIORITY that I be prepared in the event that a stranger snatched my 4 year old self.
I still remember sitting in the chair staring up at her with wide eyes as she towered over me with religious intensity. It probably looked more like an interrogation scene than anything else as she paced back and forth in front of me, her childish “teacher” voice ringing out the impassioned lesson:
Lisa: Alright, the bad guy has you tied up and gagged in a chair beside the window. When he leaves the room, what are you supposed to do?
Me:(excited cause I know this one) Try to get untied!
Lisa: Correct!! So once you get untied, what do you do next????
Me: um, Run??
Lisa:WRONG!! The first thing you MUST do is take the rope and the gag and throw it out the window! Otherwise, the bad guys will come back in and tie you up again!!
Kids are just so hilarious. I think she still has a little bit of mischief in those eyes.

Lisa and I met our freshman year at Cedarville (probably the first week) and were friends from then on. LOVE her. And I saw her pic on facebook this week. LOVE it. You have a beautiful family.

Amy, you crack me up! I love all of your stories and its a good thing your sis taught you about defeating bad guys…who knows what the world would have been like if you didn’t have that skill! It will certainly come in handy on day! I think that growing up in the 80’s was exactly like that! I know I shuttered EVERY time I saw a van with no windows pass me as I rode my bike

I love your blog and especially this post! I always wish I had an older sister, or a sister at all. I love my brother but I think there is something about a sister!!
Crazy. This video had like 3 million hits after being online for only 5 days. The internet is such a crazy thing! If you haven’t seen this video, by all means, PLEASE enjoy. If you’ve already seen it, you’ll probably still laugh the second time around. This was so me after having my tonsils out.

Love your work!! And, this video is one of the funniest things I’ve seen for years. My husband sent it to me like, just last week– it just doesn’t get old!

If the slightly smallest issue comes up in our lives now, we moan “Why is this happening to me?!” “Is this gonna be forEVer?”
David told me about it two days before some friends here in Slovakia showed it to me. Crazy how fast something can fly around the world!

Hey guys. Two things. First of all, there are only 3 seats left in the June workshop!
****The May seat has been filled…Thank you!! I’ve heard from some of you who really wanted to attend that the June dates don’t work for you, so I wanted to put it here on the blog that we’ve had one spot open up in the May 14-16 workshop as someone needs to sell her seat. It’s a 3 day spot, so you must be able to attend all 3 days in order to take her place. I’ll fill it with the first person who emails me: info@amywenzelworkshops.com. Thanks!

So I just finished watching American Idol and I texted votes for my 3 favorite contestants. I feel like kind of a dork for voting, but I’m sorry, I just feel really strongly that you have no right to sit at home and boo and hiss or root for anyone in front of your tv screen if you are not going to lend a hand to see your favorites make it further on the show. (Pardon my soap box). And furthermore, I can’t believe that I thought not watching it this year was even an option. The problem was that I tuned in for Hollywood week which is a total gateway drug. It just sucks you right in faster than you know what’s happening. It’s like geez, I barely had a chance to reject it before it had me pinned by the neck on the ground yelping, “Go, Alexis Grace!”
In other news, I recently had the opportunity to photograph Miss Teen Spirit of the State. She’ll go on to compete for the title of Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen. I get excited for anyone who competes in anything. America loves a winner, and so do I, folks! Total sucker for competitions of any kind. What started with “race you to the swingset!” grew into a life long desire to compete in some fashion or another. At least I’m nice about it. I’m not the girl to stick my foot out and trip anyone, I think a fair game makes it even better! Although my brother might disagree with me there. He just loves to tell the story about the few times I flipped the Chess board when I was losing. But I swear, in all matters other than board games I am a very nice girl. So needless to say, I’m super excited for Alyssa and was so blown away by her poise and sense of presence at the age of 14. I’m probably pretty much her biggest fan (said in the voice of Napoleon Dynamite). She’s about the sweetest thing you’ll ever meet, too! Congratulations, girl! Here’s a sneak peek of her competition head shots and promotional photos from our shoot.
P.S. I read the dictionary so I can win at Scrabble.

AAAAwwwww cool!! (Loud and clear, hope you could hear me)< Wow, Amy these shots are so good and really cool,Alyssa - youre look like S T U N N I N G !
Okay, I was ONLY awkward at 14. 100 percent. This girl is beautiful! She is beautiful without looking like she’s trying to look older than she is, you know?
Posted by: Heather | February 26, 2009 at 5:04 am
Oh my Amy…these are awesome! I cannot believe she is 14…..she is beautiful!!
OMG, I totally hear ya on AMI, I can abbreviate it ’cause I’m a slave to it, anyway—Hollywood week was insanely entertaining with all the “drama” going on. So I voted too, but I voted for that funny guy that can’t sing. Why you ask? (I know you didn’t ask, but go with it) Because it was funny and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do next time.
ANYWAY, sorry, for giving you my life story! Your photos are amazing, and she is beautiful! I give you 3 claps and a snap!;-)
Have fun at your workshop! I bet it will be awesome!
Amy - what a fun blog! I was working on Alyssa’s ads during Idol. Who did you end up voting for? I’m dying to know. I think that Adam Lambert might be one of the most beautiful men I’ve ever seen. I adore him. Disappointed in many others… I think that our Michigan boy will get his chance in the Wild Card round, though. Thanks again for these amazing shots of Alyssa… the way you captured her quiet confidence and warm heart should certainly be applauded.
omgosh this makes me laugh. i read your blog and had to come out and say i totally agree with you about the american idol voting. ; ) although don’t be mad at me for not voting this week. (i did vote last week). and i’m a shameless fan of the show. i love it!
